Graduate Certificate in Professional Writing

The graduate certificate program in Professional Writing provides students with experience in workplace communication. Providing at least two Web-based courses each semester, this innovative program offers professionals from a wide range of academic and career backgrounds an opportunity to improve and build upon their document writing and design skills. Each course presents students with a blend of theoretical training in and practical application of effective communication strategies. The curriculum is designed for immediate relevance in the workplace; to that end, faculty members incorporate cutting-edge classroom technologies, service-learning opportunities, and a wide range of community collaborations into their classes.

Required Courses Total Credit Hours: 15
All courses are available in a Web-based format.

ENC 5216 Editing Professional Writing (typically offered every fall and spring)
ENC 5237 Writing for the Business Professional (typically offered every fall and spring)
ENC 5337 Modern Rhetorical Theory (typically offered every spring)

Select two from the following:
ENG 5009 Methods of Bibliography and Research (typically offered every fall; not always online)
ENC 5245 Teaching Professional Writing (typically offered every other summer)
ENC 5291 Developing Professional Writing Projects (typically offered every fall and spring)
ENC 5306 Persuasive Writing (typically offered every other summer)
ENC 5344 Proposal Writing (typically offered every other summer)
ENC 5930 Current Topics in Professional Writing (offered occasionally)
LIN 5675 English Grammar and Usage (typically offered every other spring; occasionally in summer)

Additional technical writing and rhetoric and composition courses may also be used as electives with approval from the program coordinator
